What are the symptoms of Depression?

Most common symptoms are a deep feeling of sadness or a marked loss of interest or pleasure in activities.

Other symptoms include:-

  1. Changes in appetite that results in weight loss or gains
  2. Insomnia or oversleeping
  3. Loss of energy or increased fatigue, restlessness or irritability
  4. Feeling of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt
  5. Difficulty in thinking, concentration or making decision
  6. Suicidal thoughts

Myths & Facts about depression:

Myth 1: Depression is not a real illness.

Fact: depression is a medical illness; a health problem related to the brain and is the major cause of disability. Research has shown involvement of abnormal brain activities in patients with depression; hence it should not be confused with ordinary sadness.

Myth 2: Depressed people cry a lot.

Fact: it’s not always true. Some people don’t cry or even act terribly sad when they are depressed. Instead they are emotionally “blank”and may feel worthlessness. Even without dramatic symptoms; untreated depression prevents people from living life to its fullest.
